A COMMUNITY VISION

Pleasanton Community of Character Coalition

Community of Character...

Can six words change the climate of a community? A group of community volunteers, teens, school district officials, City representatives and a coalition of community organizations, including service clubs, churches, non-profit agencies, and businesses are betting that they can through a community-wide initiative called "Building a Community of Character." The program builds upon six character traits that are viewed as being the most essential to a healthy, positive community and lifestyle. Those traits include:

Responsibility
Compassion
Self-Discipline
Honesty
Respect
Integrity

The City of Pleasanton, Pleasanton Unified School District and the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce have been actively participating in the program by encouraging people to work together to ensure that individuals and families are strong, homes and streets are safe, education is effective, businesses are productive, and citizens care for one another. You will see banners displayed at several key locations (including schools, businesses, and City facilities) promoting each character trait. There will also be several recognition programs and events that reinforce these traits to the community.

The Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD) is also participating in the program by modeling these traits in the classroom and using curriculum to reinforce the message to youth and their families. Businesses and nonprofit organizations are participating by encouraging their employees, clients and vendors to model these behaviors throughout their daily lives.

As residents in our community, we invite you to join this community effort by continuing to reinforce these traits at home and at school, at sporting events and other extracurricular activities. We hope that by modeling these behaviors in your daily lives, you will inspire others, young and old, to follow your lead.
