The Pleasanton Chamber believes that it is vital for businesses
to stay informed on political issues impacting the business
community. Many have found, however, that attempting to wade
through all of the materials and legislation to find relevant
information can be a monumental task. As a member of the Chamber
of Commerce, this has already been done for you. The Chamber's
Government Relations Committee monitors and acts on local,
state and federal issues to ensure our businesses' best interests
are represented at all levels of government.
At any given committee meeting, Chairman Laura Olson addresses
the best and worst bills currently being reviewed in legislature,
including their authors and their current status. They also
review the positions of each of our local, state and federal
politicians. The topics run the gamut of business concerns.
Committee members are more than just informed - they take
a highly proactive approach to politics. Members of the committee
serve on one or more of the GRC's five sub-committees, including:
1) Transportation 2) Housing 3) Local Ordinances, Regulations
and Policies 4) County, State and Federal Issues and 5) Political
Action Committee.
Members of the GRC are informed on other burning issues,
including worker's compensation, education, energy, unemployment
insurance and other matters concerning the business community.
"The elected officials are very receptive to what the
business community has to say," said Laura Olson, GRC
chairman. "In dealing with our legislators, we have been
very effective in communicating our business concerns."
The Government Relations
Committee meets at 7:30 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each
month at the Chamber office. For more information on the Committee's
mission and activities, call the Chamber at (925) 846-5858
