Firehouse Arts Center Free public Grand Opening - September 18

 

The City of Pleasanton will host a FREE public Grand Opening and Dedication on Saturday, September 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to participate in this free, fun, family event! The dedication ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. The festivities will include music, theater performances, art exhibits and demonstrations, self guided tours of the new arts center, children’s activities and refreshments. For more information, please contact the City’s Parks and Community Services Department at (925) 931-5340.

 

Tickets for the fall season may be purchased online at www.firehousearts.org and beginning September 18, tickets can also be purchased at the box office of the Firehouse Arts Center, located at 4444 Railroad Avenue in downtown Pleasanton. The box office will be open Wednesday through Friday from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 


 

Leaves of Absence 101: Deciphering the Alphabet Soup!

Why This Seminar is Important.  FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PFL, SDI – what does it all mean? What are California employers required to do in light of federal laws? This session will provide you with the tools you need to understand and comply with these and other leave requirements – critical for any human resources professional or business owner. We will address leaves of absence related to family, medical, pregnancy, disability, voting, school activities, child care, and military service issues.

 

You will come away with an understanding of:

• How state and federal leave laws are coordinated

• The definition of disability, avoiding discrimination, and reasonable accommodation

• How to address abuse and misuse of leaves of absence

• How to handle intermittent leaves of absence

• How leave requirements apply to telecommuting employees

• How to handle pay, performance evaluation, and benefits issues for an employee on leave

• Whether you can terminate an employee who is on leave

• Managing an employee’s return to work

2nd Annual "Party Palooza" to Help Cancer Patients- Fundraiser for Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation

The 2nd annual “Party Palooza” is coming to the Tri-Valley in October and November to benefit the Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation. The nonprofit is hosting 14 events to raise money to help cancer patients.

 

The fun includes: “Under the Tuscan Sun,” an Italian food, wine and Bocce party on Saturday October 2; “A Whole New You” salon and spa day on Sunday October 17; and “Abracadabra: A Magic Show for the Entire Family” on Saturday November 6. Back by popular demand, we will host the 2nd annual “Soups of the World” on Saturday October 23.

 

 The Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation offers grants for helpful treatments not covered by insurance including acupuncture, acupressure, guided imagery and meditation. Those treatments are used to treat cancer side effects such as neuropathy, pain, nausea, anxiety and fatigue.
