Ideally situated at the intersection of I-580 and 1-680, Pleasanton is less than an hour drive time from San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and the Central Valley; and only 90 minutes from the state capitol in Sacramento. Pleasanton is near three major international airports - Oakland (OAK), San Francisco (SFO), and San Jose (SJC), while Pleasanton's neighbor, Livermore, operates a municipal airport with facilities for privates planes and charter services.

Pleasanton residents can enjoy a direct ride to San Francisco without hitting the highways simply by taking Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART). For over four decades, BART has been an efficient, reliable way for families, friends and commuters to safely reach their destinations. What started out as a futuristic dream in 1972-then carrying approximately 170,000 passengers per week-has now grown to be a vital part of the regional culture and economy. BART estimates ridership in FY18 will average 432,000 trips on weekdays and 126 million trips annually. During peak commute hours, nearly 25,000 people ride through the Transbay Tube into Downtown San Francisco. BART is the largest public transportation system in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing more than 360,000 daily passenger trips over 104 miles of double track rail and 44 stations.

Two BART stations serve Pleasanton. The East Dublin/Pleasanton station, located in the Interstate 580 median near Hacienda Drive, has adjacent north and south parking lots. The station is a completely intermodal facility; connections to several bus companies, taxis and other modes of transportation are available.

The West Dublin/Pleasanton BART station straddles the border of Dublin and Pleasanton on Interstate 580 and is near the Stoneridge Shopping Center. The station has two parking garages: 722-space garage on the Dublin side of the station and a 468-space garage located on the Pleasanton side of the station.

WHEELS is a service of the Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA) and provides public transportation for the Tri-Valley communities of Dublin, Livermore and Pleasanton. With easy connections to BART and ACE, Wheels is a convenient way to travel and an excellent way to build a cleaner, healthier and less congested community.

WHEELS also provides Dial-A-Ride service for persons with disabilities who are ADA-certified to use paratransit. WHEELS Dial-A-Ride, along with the City of Pleasanton Paratransit, provides door-to-door service throughout the WHEELS service area.

The Rapid began operating in 2011 on parallel roads alongside Interstate 580, providing a faster route between Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton. And with arrivals every 10 minutes during peak commute hours, you won't need to plan your commute around the bus. The Rapid is environmentally friendly and powered by low-emission, electric hybrid technology, is an effective way to get more cars off the road, reduce the region's carbon footprint and decrease greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption.

The Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) runs four trains daily (M-F) from Stockton to San Jose. To enhance the convenience of commuting, ACE has implemented the "barrier-free" system where passengers may purchase tickets in advance and validate each trip at a machine conveniently located at all ACE boarding platforms. The ACE ticket is also displayed to gain free access to numerous shuttles positioned at the ACE stations to carry passengers to employment sites in Alameda and Santa Clara counties. To complete the barrier-free system, shuttles also connect to other transit systems such as Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and the Santa Clara light-rail system.
